Website design and development

A small or mid-sized business that needs a site that loads fast, reads clearly on a phone, and gives a potential customer an obvious way to make contact.

Discuss this service

What you get

  • A page structure derived from what customers actually ask, not from a template.
  • Design and build of a fast, accessible, mobile-first site.
  • Content structure and copy editing support, so the pages say something specific.
  • Analytics and conversion tracking on the enquiry path, so the site can be judged.
  • A short handover covering how to edit pages and what the numbers mean.

How this differs from website redesign

A redesign starts from an existing site whose problems are known and measured. A new build has no incumbent to diagnose, so the work begins with the page structure rather than with an audit.

How we approach it

  • We start from the enquiries you want and the questions a customer asks before making one, not from a visual concept.
  • Content and structure are agreed before design, because a layout built around placeholder copy gets rebuilt around real copy.
  • Accessibility and page weight are decided during design; retrofitting either after launch means reworking the template.

What is out of scope

  • Ongoing content writing at volume. We will advise on structure and tell you when a page should not exist, but we do not pad a site with pages that say nothing.
  • Logo and brand identity design as a standalone engagement.

How it is priced

Cost is driven mainly by the number of page types and how much content has to be written or migrated, not by the number of pages.

See the pricing page for how that works in practice.

How to start

The first conversation is free and usually takes half an hour. Bring the problem as you experience it — what is not working and what you have already tried.

Tell us what you need

The more specific you are about the problem, the more useful the first reply will be. We read every enquiry ourselves.

We reply to this address. We do not add it to a mailing list.

A range is enough. It helps us say whether we are the right fit before either of us spends time on a call.

What is not working, what it costs you, and what you have already tried.
